In this project we were comissioned to design a new arch enemy for Doctor Who. We were told it would have the body of a man and the head of an alien creature, we were to invent the alien and create a clay bust of the creature for BBC studios. I decided to create a creature who was from a very marshy, acidic planet so his skin is constantly melting and reforming, inspired by melting candles and snakes shedding their skin. First we made a marquette to work from then used newspaper and wire to frame the shape before covering it in clay and adding detail. After it was fired I painted it and added wax for the skin dripping texture.
